Your 911 Service: What You Need to Know with a Modern Voice Connection

By admin

The ability to access emergency services by dialing 911 is a critical feature, and it is a standard part of your voice service from Colorado Valley. This service is designed to connect you to an appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (“PSAP”)—the local call center that dispatches police, fire, and medical responders—when you dial 911.

For customers with voice service over a non-traditional network (like fiber or fixed wireless), the call will be routed to the appropriate PSAP based on the primary service address assigned to your telephone number.

Circumstances That Can Affect Your 911 Service

While your 911 service is a standard feature, there are several scenarios that could affect your ability to complete a call. It is important to be aware of these limitations.

Loss of Electric Service

Your Colorado Valley voice service is powered by electricity. In the event of a commercial power outage, your voice service—including access to 911 emergency service—will not be available. We offer battery backup solutions, which will provide power to your voice service for a limited time to help you stay connected.

Loss of Internet Connection

Your voice service allows you to make calls using an Internet connection. If this connection fails or becomes overloaded for any reason, your voice service will not be available, and you will not have access to 911.

Non-payment for Service

Failure to make timely payments for your service may result in the suspension or disconnection of your dial tone. This will also result in the loss of 911 emergency service access.

Always Keep Your Address Up-to-Date

Your 911 service is based on the primary service address we have on file for your telephone number. This information must be updated if you change locations from the address given upon activation of service. If your service address is incorrect, the PSAP will assume you are located at the address we have on file, which could delay emergency responders in getting to you.

We encourage you to verify and update your service address with us anytime you move or make a change.
