CVCares in Action: Giving Back Where We Live

By Karen Gunkel

At Colorado Valley Communications, giving back is more than a value—it’s a commitment. Through our new CVCares program, CVCTX employees are encouraged to volunteer their time with local nonprofit organizations that make a meaningful difference in our communities.

This holiday season, several team members embraced the spirit of service by supporting organizations that care for animals, individuals in need, and local heritage. Their efforts are a wonderful example of how small acts of service can create a big impact.

Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter
Lisa Schlemmer volunteered her time at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter, which provides care, shelter, and adoption services for animals throughout Fayette County. The shelter plays a vital role in protecting and rehoming animals while promoting responsible pet ownership in the community.

“Volunteering at the animal shelter was incredibly rewarding. Knowing that a little time and care can make such a difference for these animals really meant a lot to me,” said Lisa Schlemmer, Network Operations Coordinator.

Second Chance Emporium
Sandra Weyand volunteered with Second Chance, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families during times of transition. Second Chance provides essential resources, assistance, and encouragement to help people regain stability and move forward with confidence.

“Second Chance truly lives up to its name. It felt good to be part of something that helps people rebuild and reminds them they’re not alone,” shared Sandra Weyand, Accounts Payable/Receivable Associate.

Texas Czech Heritage Center
Kay Loehr volunteered at the Texas Czech Heritage Center, which works to preserve and celebrate Czech history, culture, and traditions in Texas. During a special Christmas event, Kay helped prepare lunch for the band—contributing behind the scenes to a festive celebration enjoyed by the community.

“Being part of the Christmas event at the Heritage Center was so special. Helping prepare lunch for the band felt like a small way to support something that brings so much joy and preserves our local history,” said Kay Loehr, Associate Accountant.

The CVCares program reflects CVCTX’s ongoing commitment to the communities we serve. By supporting employees as they give back, we’re strengthening local organizations, building deeper connections, and helping make our service areas even better places to live and work.

We’re proud of Lisa, Sandra, Kay, and all our employees who are making a difference—one volunteer hour at a time.
