Fayette County’s emergency medical services (EMS) team works around the clock to keep our community safe. For 48 hours at a time, EMS professionals live at their stations—sleeping, eating, training, and responding to emergencies ranging from car accidents to heart attacks and fires. After their shift, they enjoy four days off to spend with family and recharge before the cycle begins again.
To support these dedicated professionals, Colorado Valley Communications proudly partners with Fayette County EMS to offer scholarships that help team members advance their careers. Whether an employee is pursuing EMT-Basic, EMT-Advanced, or paramedic certification, the scholarship provides crucial financial assistance and encouragement to continue their professional growth. This investment in education doesn’t just benefit individual employees—it strengthens the department as a whole. In fact, about one-third of scholarship recipients have gone on to take leadership roles within the department, guiding their peers and helping shape the future of emergency care in Fayette County. Through this partnership, CVCTX is not only helping EMS professionals achieve their goals but also ensuring the community continues to receive highly skilled and committed emergency responders.
“The impact of this partnership has been instrumental for our community,” says Fayette County EMS Director Josh Vandever. “It not only helps our team grow professionally, but it strengthens the care we provide to Fayette County residents.”
Serving 960 square miles with five full-time stations, EMS professionals respond to roughly 4,000 calls each year, averaging 77 calls per week. They’re also on standby for community events, from antique fairs to ballgames, and offer CPR, first-aid, and “Stop the Bleed” classes for residents and medical professionals.
Fayette County EMS also works to inspire the next generation of EMTs and paramedics by speaking to high school students about career opportunities locally. “You get a lot of time off and opportunities to do really cool things,” Josh says.
Through the EMS Scholarship program, CVCTX continues to invest in the people who keep Fayette County safe, helping them grow, lead, and make a lasting impact on the community.
